STRK is the native token of Starknet, a ZK-rollup Layer 2 scaling solution on Ethereum built by StarkWare. Starknet uses STARK proofs (transparent, post-quantum secure zero-knowledge proofs) to verify transaction batches on Ethereum. STRK is used to pay transaction fees (since September 2025), stake for network security, and participate in governance. Starknet supports EVM and Cairo (StarkWare's native language) smart contracts.
Starknet batches thousands of transactions off-chain, executes them in the Cairo VM, and generates a STARK proof that cryptographically verifies all computations were correct. This proof is submitted to Ethereum for verification β much cheaper than re-executing transactions on-chain. Starknet features native account abstraction (every account is a smart contract by default), enabling features like multi-call transactions, fee payment in any token, and multi-sig by default. Cairo is a Turing-complete language purpose-built for provable computation, more efficient for ZK proofs than Solidity. STRK staking for block production decentralized sequencing was activated in 2025.

Ethereum mainnet cannot scale to mainstream adoption due to high gas costs and limited throughput. Starknet uses STARK proofs β which are post-quantum secure and require no trusted setup β to enable arbitrary smart contract execution at scale on Ethereum. This scales Ethereum without compromising security while adding powerful features like native account abstraction that Ethereum itself lacks.
STARK proofs are post-quantum secure and require no trusted setup β unlike SNARK-based ZK systems β making Starknet's cryptographic foundation the most security-forward of all major Ethereum rollup solutions.
